What I Wore Week 3

SOOO thankful this week is through. It was definitely my busiest yet. I didn’t sleep very much and so I didn’t wake up as early which meant that I didn’t have a whole lot of time to get ready. These outfits were quick, comfortable, and most importantly cool (because it is still one million degrees here in Texas). I am slowly but surely making the transition into fall but refuse to pull out full on jeans until it is at least 80 degrees. These are my one foot in summer one foot in fall outfits. Whatcha think?

My Prayer for this week…

I need to work on trusting Him.

So many times when something not so great happens, or even when I just have a lot to do, I take it into my own hands. As if I’m saying “I need to be good before we chat again, Lord.” As if I feel that I must be perfect before we meet. That I must be worthy.

The thing I need to realize is that the Lord doesn’t want me worthy. He didn’t die on the cross because I was worthy, He died because I wasn’t. And He wanted me anyway. He wants me just as I am.

My prayer for this week is that I let Him into everything. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Because with Him on my side, the bad isn’t so bad and the ugly might just turn out to be beautiful.

“Healer” by Kari Jobe

“You hold my very moment

You calm my raging seas

You walk with me through fire

And heal all my disease

I trust in You, I trust in You

I believe You’re my healer

I believe You are all I need

I believe

And I believe You’re my portion

I believe You’re more than enough for me

Jesus You’re all I need.

Nothing is impossible for You

Nothing is impossible

Nothing is impossible for You

You hold my world in Your hands

Nothing is impossible for You

Nothing is impossible

Nothing is impossible for You

You hold my world in Your hands

I believe You’re my healer

I believe You are all I need

Oh, yes You are, yes You are

And I believe You’re my portion

I believe You’re more than enough for me

Jesus You’re all I need.”

Weekend in Review

(So if I had a long weekend, does posting on Monday still count? Humor me and pretend it does.)

I drove home Friday and saw my family! As I drove up my parents were sitting on the bench in the front yard with our sweet doggies. It was great to see them. Also great? My mom’s spaghetti and daddy’s pork chops. #yummm

1. One of my best friends Clare and I were reunited! She woke me up Saturday morning and we spent the whole weekend together. Is it bad that I already miss her?

2) Saturday Clare and I spent shopping and catching up. It was rainy… but we got princess parking!

3. Sunday- First Baylor football game!! Oh my goodness it was SO MUCH FUN! The big picture is a third of my theatre class waiting in line to run the Line. Epic.

Now in order from the top to bottom left. a) My gorgeous friend Annie and I. b) Katherine, Kat, and I getting PUMPED. c)My view from the Line. d) Sky view of the Line. e) Pat Neff glowing green after the massacre of SMU. So sad pony boys. Better luck next time?

4. Clare came with my family and I up to the game and she sat with my parents and brother. She and I had a sleepover Sunday night in the shoebox! It was a ton of fun. She, Amanda, and I watched the Help and had some girl time. Clare ended up making a pallet under my bed and sleeping there! She said it was super comfortable. Guess thats the guest room now!

5. I drove Clare back to Georgetown today (which, for those of you who don’t know, is GORGEOUS). We had a lovely lunch at McCalister’s (spelling?).

Well that is basically it! I came back, cleaned and unpacked my dorm room (pictures coming this week!), and have been studying ever since! Such is my college life.

Week 2: What I Wore

Week two is in the bag and I have a long weekend!! The first football game is Sunday, I get to run the line, I get to see my family, and one of my best friends is coming to visit! I am so excited :)

I was incredibly busy this week and didn’t have as much time to get ready in the morning (somehow, at 8 am, sleep seems more important), so I went back to some old favorite outfits and switched em up a bit. I was comfortable (minus the massive blisters from my Reva’s… I hope they break in soon!) and casual. Oh and I wore my glasses to school for the first time since the 7th grade! #tbt

What I learned today.

I’m learning here. (Pretty sure I just heard my mother utter a sigh of relief 2.5 hours away in Houston. Breathe, Momma, it’s not all fun and games :P)

And while I am learning a lot of things in class…

This is my nifty seam from Costume Elements (I am so tickled pink that I get to take that class… even if it doesn’t feel like school.)

…I am learning so much outside of class too. Lots of it is of spiritual nature. I think that He was definitely giving me a message today too:

“Stop and enjoy.”

It is so hard for me to do! This is partly due to the fact that I am a theatre major here, and as such, many of my classes are the furthest point away from my dorm as geographically possible (whoever designed the theatre had it out for Collins girls I’m pretty sure). The walk is quite lengthy, and with 15 minutes between each class, I have to hustle to make places on time. I tend to only focus on the destination, rather than the journey. It has become (in the 6 short days I have been in classes) a bit of a habit. I rush. I rush when I study, when I talk, when I get ready, and when I move. Bad Rachel.

I am in such a gorgeous place,

(No filter… this is legitimately what I saw this morning #breathtaking)

and the Lord is everywhere, yet when I zoom around, I miss Him. For God is not one to yell “HERE I AM RACHEL!! SEE ME!!!” No, He is the quiet voice saying

“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest“

Apparently I wasn’t listening hard enough today, so He gave me not one, but TWO gentle nudges. Thank you Lord for knowing that sometimes things need to be repeated to my semi-ADD brain.

First nudge, I woke up early to shower before classes. I spent so much time doing my hair and getting ready (when, let’s face it, it is, and most likely always will be, a big Texas mess no matter what I do) that I did not spend anytime that morning with God. Not a “Good Morning” or a “How are you”. Nada. Also bad Rachel.

I rushed out the door to head to class. I am still not used to the block schedule here ( my HS had rotating…oh the Academy…miss you!) and figured that since I didn’t have my Realism class at 9:05, and started the day instead with Spanish (which is usually after Realism MWF) it would be at 9:05. As I was walking, I realized that no one was around me. This meant one of two things: I was either late or early. After frantically checking my schedule on my phone (because I am deathly afraid of being late #epicallyembarrasing) I realized I was a full 40 minutes early for my next class!! On Tues/Thurs Spanish starts at 930.

I happily skipped (okay walked… I am not that carefree) back to my dorm and spent 30 minutes with Him. It set a lovely tone for the rest of my morning.

Today’s “Jesus Calling” Devotional… Everyone should buy this book. It is amazing.

Second nudge, habits (even small ones) are hard to break. Because I had to rush to my 2nd class, I got back in the speed brain. After my morning classes, I had an hour and a half to get lunch, change out my binders, check my emails, and talk to my mom before dashing to meet my friend from philosophy at CG so that we could discuss the previous class/homework and then get to class before Dr. Dougherty. I decided to grab a quick coffee and sandwich from Starbucks to save some minutes. But as I am dashing outside, it starts torainPOUR. And I was in a white t-shirt. #joy. So I sat in a chair, put in my headphones (Hillsong Live= instapeace), ate my sandwich, and stared out the huge windows of Moody library. And what do you know? I started to relax. I wound down and enjoyed my 15 minutes of rest.

“Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

First week of college classes… check!!
First off I would like to say that I am in love with my school. Baylor is one of the greatest places on earth! How silly and strange to think that a year ago I barely even knew it existed??? *Shakes head* at senior self.
Anywhoo here is what I wore this week to class… I have a super long trek to the theatre so I had to make sure that all of my outfits were comfortable and easy to move in. I felt that on the scale of dressiness from 1 to 10 I was at about a 6 or 7. Which I think is a good place to be.

Happy New Year!!
I am going to keep myself accountable on all my New Year’s Resolutions by writing them down…
So here we go kiddos:
1)Stop being late. (this one is gonna be SO HARD for me. it’s not like I am horribly late to anything… but most of the time I am around 10 minutes late. this has gotta stop y’all.)
2)Be more organized. (said resolution has been going on for 4 years. to said its a process is the understatement of the decade. to be fair, I have improved, but I have sooooo much more to do. my music needs to be organized first, and then maybe I will tackle under the bed.)
3)Get more creative in the kitchen. (I want to get away from desserts in a box. ‘nuff said)
4) Get in shape. (what resolution list wouldn’t be complete with out this cliche??)
5)Post on here at least once a week. (I really would like to have a successful blog. let’s see if I can pull it off….)

This quote is my southern anthem. Everyday, as I slowly and deliriously shuffle through my morning routine, I have a sweet tea to wake me up. This cute little diet drink saves my butt on the daily. It is my drink of choice and the epitome of southern goodness.

What I Wore Today:

Prologue: I have been reading two style blogs pretty religiously lately. WhatIWore @http://whatiwore.tumblr.com/ & Kendi Everyday @http://kendieveryday.blogspot.com/. And I think they are pretty swell. So, in keeping with the mantra that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I thought I would share what I wore tonight!

When: October 21st, 2011

What:

Dress: Francesca’s

Belt: Kate Spade

Boots: Tory Burch

Scarf: Calvin Klein

Necklace: Ryan Ryan Jewelry

Earrings: Kendra Scott Jewelry

Where:

King Bo’s Chinese Restaurant and Ivonne’s House

Why:

My really good friend Ivonne has a really sweet boyfriend who decided to throw her a surprise birthday party. But, even though he is amazing when it comes to throwing parties, he is not so great at the “what should I wear?” question. I believe his exact words were “uuuUUUUhhhhHHHHH”.

My other dilemma was the fact that it is October… and 80 degrees. So I needed something fall but not something that was going to make me melt.  Hence this billowy cotton dress that has been hiding in my closet for awhile now. It is a tad spring-y but with the boots and scarf, it is a nice transition outfit.

I am also proud that I got a compliment on this outfit! Ivonne said I looked cute and Nathalie told me that when she saw me she said “Oooh that girl is really fashionable… hey thats Rachel!!” 10 fashion points for me! I feel accomplished :)
